They don’t actually repair the root cause of acid reflux. Your stomach produces acid in order to digest food. That acid is supposed to remain in the stomach. However, when there is a weakness in the lower esophageal sphincter, or LES, stomach acid can leak out, causing a sharp burning pain in the chest or upper belly.

The da Vinci Surgical System® can effectively fix the underlying structural condition causing GERD, either by fixing a hiatal hernia or, if there is no hernia, by fixing the weakened stomach valve (LES). I believe that strenuous exercise, up to 7 hours per week of spinning, TRX, abs and breathing exercises (at reduced intensity, always using a finger oximeter and staying above 88% O2 saturation) has contributed to my IPF not getting worse. That’s why I strongly recommend to all you IPF sufferers to exercise as much as possible to make those damaged lungs work. 1. IPF is strongly associated with gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), a condition where stomach acid flows back into your esophagus.

  • It’s estimated that 90 percent of people with IPF have GERD.
  • As regards GERD, counterflow chi, propelled in part by “liver invading spleen,” manifests as upward movement of stomach acid and gases as opposed to its normal downward movement.
  • I have had acid reflux problems for over 50 years which I always took some antacids for.

I was totally dehydrated, had a white cell count below 1000, needed shock treatment for my heart, had an emergency ablation surgery on my heart, woke up on a ventilator from an allergic reaction to medication, lost all my hair and 30 pounds of weight, and came home in a wheelchair to die. Thank you so much for all your advice for me over the many years of reading your Health Alert newsletter. Every health problem I have developed I have used your protocols, and they have worked! I have resolved with your help, Atrial Fibrillation, Acid Reflux, Hiatal Hernia, and Leaking Heart Valves. Dr. West is an expert in clinical nutrition, kinesiology, pain control, and rehabilitation.

I guess I’d better close as this is getting quite long and started to not give many people any more acid reflux problem helps and results. I still have acid reflux problems so sometimes it doesn’t pay to get the Hiatal Hernia operations and sometimes some people swear how it helped them. I know what you have been going through with the acid reflux problems as you have probably read some of my posts from earlier above.

Had an endoscopy and colonoscopy a few months ago since I was having acid reflux and diarrhea. I too suffer from acid reflux, have for years but is much worse since my diagnosis of IPF. I now get violently ill at times.

He has helped and cured more patients than any other physician or doctor of any kind, living or dead. A third of all postmenopausal women with achlorhydria is a giant number. It is a shocking number. And it is even more horrendous when you consider that most of these women will be prescribed antacids and proton pump inhibitor drugs, which will make their conditions, their health, and their lives much worse.

Somewhere, I have read that taking black licorice helps people with acid reflux problems and this tablet doesn’t say it has any licorice extract in it, but it tastes like it. When I chew 2 tablets at bedtime, I have never had acid reflux at night.

Where did you purchase it, and/or did your insurance cover any of it? Did you start on the CPAP because of the acid reflux, or to help more with your breathing from IPF? I’m really glad to hear that the fibrosis in your lungs hasn’t progressed too much, that is good news! In terms of pain in your legs, I have this often but generally it is throughout all of my legs. I actually have tried different remedies to help alleviate restless leg syndrome, but nothing significant in terms of anything being able to help.

When this occurs, it lets highly corrosive stomach acid escape back up into the area between your stomach and your mouth. This is acid reflux, also called gastroesophageal reflux disease or GERD.

Low gastric acidity encourages longer residency of protein foods in the stomach; hence, a protracted acid secretion. Though the concentration of stomach acid may be reduced, the extended period of time that the stomach is exposed to an acid challenge (even a relatively dilute one) not only encourages acid reflux, it also predisposes the stomach lining to organic changes consistent with ulcer formation. Within the context of this discussion of chronic acid reflux, avoiding dilution of stomach acids seems counter-intuitive. However, as discussed in Part 1, contrary to the popular misconception that GERD is the result of an excessive production of stomach acid, in most cases it is actually related to low stomach acid production.
