How to Take the Baking Soda Stomach Acid Test for Digestion

The effects of not absorbing nutrients can be a chapter in itself. Just think of one example of not being able to absorb calcium. Think about your bones, teeth, and more. Many people that take PPI’s (Proton Pump Inhibitors) to inhibit stomach acid production end up with osteoporosis. If you have been confirmed by you have low stomach acids, you may want to consider adding in HCL (hydrochloric acid) with pepsin.

Taking it before a meal may create a false experience of heartburn and can turn off stomach acid production for this meal. Do not take HCL if any NSAIDs are being taken by you such as ibuprofen, Tylenol or aspirin. 2.

I had high-functioning Asperger’s Syndrome. Between healing my gut, chelating mercury and arsenic with Andrew Cutler’s protocol, and now getting ammonia under control I’m not doing now too bad. I don’t know what caused low stomach acid but mercury does very bad things to the digestive system. I’m still taking AKG to help with ammonia but going after the root of the problem with HCl seems to be a whole lot more effective. I am now convinced that the low stomach acid has caused an overgrowth of bacteria in my digestive system that is causing a lot of my problems.

The author is right that stomach acid is crucial for long-term digestive health. A very small percentage might even get reflux from it. All this buzz around low stomach acid started with Jonathan Wright’s book about “Why Stomach Acid Is Good for You”. The book describes exhaustively how acid and digestive enzymes are the basis for healthy digestion – which is correct.

My reflux problems have recently returned, along with waking up with bloating and burning pain. I’ve had undigested food particles in my stool still, burping/bloating/flatulence after eating/drinking/taking vitamins immediately, weight loss, and difficulty digesting everything. I’ve assumed low stomach acid this whole time but have been tested for it never.

If the symptoms remain consistent and worsen, then it may have progressed into gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This means that the acid reflux happens at least twice a week, interferes with your daily life, and has damaged your esophagus possibly. If you have been diagnosed with GERD, follow your doctor’s instructions for managing your symptoms. If you suspect you have GERD, see your doctor to avoid long-term complications.

Try them for yourself, and you might be impressed with the results. The test works by triggering a chemical reaction in your stomach from mixing the base baking soda with stomach acid.

If your stomach acid levels are imbalanced, you aren’t able to properly break down food, so to balance that out, you need enzymes. And as you work to bring it back into balance with ACV, the enzymes can help the whole chemical reaction begin.

If the claims of the book were true, increased acid production from stopping PPIs should heal reflux for a while – not worsen it. However, there is no data that shows this being the case for most people. If low stomach acid is so common in reflux patients, it would be easy to back this up with studies. Most studies are expensive because you try to show how a treatment is working better than a placebo.

The Heidelberg Stomach Acid Test. This is the gold standard test for hypochlorhydria. The patient swallows a radio transmitter to measure the acidity of the stomach as you drink a baking soda solution to neutralize the stomach acid. Not returning to normal is a sign of hypochlorhydria.

I’m sure I can attribute this to taking the Prilosec for so long. I need help in trying to wean off the Prilosec and advice on when to take the HCL Betaine. I just want my life back and not be afraid of food.

If you get the warm, burning sensation, decrease by one pill at your next meal. It can go either way in our experience. If you use HCL for a few months and see little to no improvement in your stomach acid and digestion (i.e. you can’t lower the amount of HCL you need) then it is time to start looking at a potential root cause for your low stomach acid like an infection. Hi Courteny – It could be still.
